Back in August, I was given the opportunity to throw a free birthday party for my son Gabriel, who recently turned nine this year. This party was to test out the Game Truck Party – Video Game party. If you’ve heard about kid birthday parties in a truck, then you’ve probably heard about Game Truck Party. It’s the hottest new way to celebrate your kid’s birthday and it’s totally worth it!
Party Details
I am usually full of details whenever I throw any party – from matching decor themes and colors to cakes and utensils. But for this party, I wanted it to be more laid-back. With my whole family from New York and Florida visiting for the summer that week, our house was packed and my hands were full.
However, I still managed to get a few Minecraft (Gabriel’s choice of party theme) details in the party. I got a few green, brown and black party sign, buntings, matching utensils and table covers from Party City and my sister Maria made and designed a totally awesome and delicious chocolate Creeper cake!
I also had the birthday boy wear his Minecraft shirt.
GameTruck Party
So, here’s my honest review of Game Truck Party. First, I want to say that this party was totally stress-free. Our party was scheduled to start at11:30am until 1:30pm. The Game Truck Party truck pulled up in front of our house about half an hour before the start time and everything was already set up for the kids to play video games in the truck at exactly 11:30am.
The kids thought the truck was so cool with the giant HDTVs, consoles and all their favorite games! With Gabriel being a huge fan of Minecraft and Skylanders video games, this party was total heaven for him, which I was so happy about! 🙂
Our Game Party Truck party coordinator was very kind and helpful and was there for the entire party to supervise the kids. He showed the kids how to use or operate the video game gadgets and such.
We also invited a few ‘big kids’ to the party – my nephew (who is 21) and his friends enjoyed playing with the video games too, while Dan (my husband) and I were just as entertained watching the kids having fun in the cool party truck! 🙂
All in all, the Game Truck Party party really lived up to our expectations. Not only did it help me throw a stress-free birthday party (all our guests didn’t have to be inside our house the whole time), it also made for a fun, memorable event for my son Gabriel, his friends and our whole family! The only complaint by this birthday boy? Two hours wasn’t enough for playing his favorite video games, lol. If I could have a personal suggestion for Game Truck Party, it is to have an option for customers to add an hour or two to the 2 hour party time limit. Still, we would do another GameTruck Party in the future! Everything was awesome from start to finish!

The GameCoaches that hosted the event made sure that everything went smoothly.
As soon as the truck drove up the street we had kids jumping up and down with excitement. If you want to get kids excited for a party, driving a semi covered in graphics and large faces is a pretty surefire way to do it.

Have you heard of a “Party Truck”? I had no idea such a thing existed until earlier this summer when I got an email from a company called GameTruck. They wanted to send us one to write about for Mommyish. The idea is pretty simple. You rent the truck for two hours and they show up at your door with games, entertainment and music. Basically, it’s a self-contained party that drives up to your door.
GameTruck offers trucks with two different party options: laser tag and video games. I live in New York City, so the whole idea of laser tag/kids running around in traffic with guns thing didn’t appeal to me. However, I know a lot of 8-15 year olds who LOVE video games, so that seemed like an easy route to go. And yes, they LOVED it.
At the end of the day, if you are anti-video game (or live somewhere that cannot fit a semi-truck), the GameTruck we got will not be your bag. But there are a lot of great things we found out about having a huge truck full of video games drive up to your house.
1. It’s An Instant Party
As soon as the truck drove up the street we had kids jumping up and down with excitement. If you want to get kids excited for a party, driving a semi covered in graphics and large faces is a pretty surefire way to do it.
2. You Don’t Have To Do AnythingThe party begins when the truck shows up. It ends when it rolls away. As the day went on, I felt like a rockstar for answering a series of emails to schedule the truck. Other than that, all I did was show up.
3. Everyone Will Be SOOOO QuietHave you ever seen 10+ kids sitting quietly for nearly two hours? Everyone in attendance was so awestruck by the number of games on offer — and then excited about playing — that this was by far the calmest group of kids I have seen to date.
4. It Won’t Just Be Kids Sitting AroundThe truck we received had two TVs outside and a number of active games – including Dance Dance Revolution – which kept people entertained who weren’t inside the truck.
5. Adults Can Have Fun TooI’m pretty sure no one actually played Dance Dance Revolution properly the entire time we had the truck, but there was a lot of dancing and silliness and everyone loved it.

GameTruck Howard County hosted a party for Jessica, a parent in Silver Spring, in August 2014. An energetic new owner, Erik Maxwell was heavily involved in making sure that everything at the party went smoothly for Jessica and her guests. Jessica wrote:
Our party’s GameCoach was owner Erik. He or another GameTruck staff member serves as the Coach and manages each event, promoting fair, interactive play. He helped kids take turns, select games and calmly managed all the children’s wants and turns with complete patience. It was seamless. The other parents and I simply got to enjoy watching the kids play without any moderation. It was heavenly!

GameTruck was an exciting experience for our kids and their friends
My family and I received an offer from GameTruck of Howard County to host a GameTruck party for our children and 17 of their friends. Although no one had a birthday any time soon, we thought this was an incredible way to celebrate summer.
GameTruck offers a premier party experience in an interactive, multi-player environment that accommodates 16 or more players (the GameTruck Howard County vehicle can hold 20 kids.) Totally self-powered and climate-controlled, the GameTruck trailer was outfitted with comfortable seating, six flat-screen HDTVs, and enhanced sound systems.
The parents and I LOVED how the truck offered these big gorgeous windows that lifted up to create an indoor-outdoor experience. We parents were hanging out outside the window and able to watch the kids play within. KidzBop music played on a sound system, contributing to the outdoor party feel.
Kids can choose from more than three dozen of the latest multiplayer video games and all the major video game consoles such as XBOX360, Nintendo WiiU and Playstation. GameTruck Howard County’s owner Erik Maxwell called me before the event and we discussed which games would be most appropriate for our group of kids age 6-13. We removed all rated M for Mature games and he stocked the truck with sports games like FIFA soccer, Madden Football and group games that would appeal to all ages like Super Mario Kart, JustDance and Minecraft.
