Hack of the Week for Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Hack of the Week

Playing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild? Here some tips to make your journey through Hyrule a little easier.

Money

  1. Sell your gems.
  2. Cook and Sell Food (some sell for 490 rupee a skewer).
  3. Kill Guardians!  It takes some skill but the rewards are worthwhile.
  4. Use Your Amiibo for fun surprises.
  5. Gamble in Lurlin Village.

Attacks

  1. Learning to jump and stop time to fire an arrow is a core mechanic. I defeated Vah Ruta, the Elephant Divine Beast, without knowing how to do that.  It makes many battles a lot easier.
  2. You can drop bombs when using the parasail, like your own personal airstrike. I love that.
  3. You can use your shield to deflect shots right back at enemies, kinda like hitting a baseball back at a pitcher.
  4. You can cut off the legs of guardians if you have a strong enough weapon.
  5. Elemental weapons (fire, ice) offset environmental effects like cold and heat.  You can even use fire weapons to melt giant ice formations in the mountains.

Bonus Tip: If you go to the main screen and select your profile you can see how many hours you have played Zelda. As of the time of this writing I am at 52 hours… No judgment!

The Nintendo Switch Has Arrived at GameTruck!

The Nintendo Switch Has Arrived at GameTruck!

Nintendo has released a new console called Nintendo Switch, and we are beyond excited about it. We are mostly excited because GameTruck is now offering Nintendo Switch along with our other gaming features.
But what is Nintendo Switch? It is a new home console with a portable twist. You can play using the single player option that is similar to Nintendo’s Wii U console. You can also switch over to multiplayer mode. The screen and Joy-Con controller combo turns into two Joy-Con controllers for splitscreen multiplayer fun.

We’re not only excited about the console release, but the new games that we are offering. Let’s check them out!

1-2-Switch

1-2-Switch is a game of mini-games that encourages you to engage eye to eye with your friends, rather than on the screen. There are three different modes to play: the normal mode which has no restrictions, shuffle mode which randomly cycles through the minigames, and lastly, there is team battle mode which allows you to battle on teams of two.
There are 28 mini games within 1-2 Switch. One of our favorites is called Quick Draw, a Western-style showdown where you have to beat your opponent to the draw. Another favorite is Samurai Training where players take turns slashing and catching a sword above their head.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

In the story, Link is destined to defeat the villain, The Calamity Ganon, before he gains too much power and destroys the kingdom of Hyrule.
In the game, you play as the character Link in the open world of Hyrule, meaning you can explore the game freely. There is little instruction, unlike previous Legend of Zelda games. The game is set up for more player involvement, decision making, and experimentation. Players can control Link by climbing, collecting items and weapons, and eating food to gain health.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Everyone at some point has played Mario Kart with all our friends. This game is a new and improved version of the popular Wii U game. There are new battle modes like Balloon Battle and Bob-omb Blast, and returning modes like Shine Thief. The game includes all of the previous versions’ downloadable content, as well as new courses and vehicles for players to choose from. lNew courses and vehicles are available for players to choose from as well.

Nintendo Switch: Things to Know | GameTruck Colorado Springs

Nintendo Switch: Things to Know

Back in October, Nintendo made waves when they announced their new console. Previously known through rumors and teases as the “NX”, the Nintendo Switch is sure to change the face of gaming as we know it.

The name “Switch” refers to the ability to switch it between different modes of functionality. The console switches between console, portable, and table-top modes.

It’s more awesome than it sounds. Something like this hasn’t been done (well) since the Sega Nomad in the 90’s. With the upcoming release of this console, we’ve compiled a few things that you should know, so get ready!

The Joy-Con

Nintendo’s new two-piece controller is a big part of the console’s name. Known as the Joy-Con, the unit packs a lot of functionality into a tiny package.

The Joy-Con can act as a single device, split into two, or combine with the screen for a portable device. Each piece contains motion controls like the previous generation Wii-motes. The right Joy-Con even has NFC sensor, to make use of the widely popular Amiibo figurines.

Multiplayer Madness

Nintendo has a long history of making fun multiplayer games, and the Nintendo Switch seems to be no different. With the growing list of games like 1-2-Switch, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, ARMS, and Splatoon 2, there’s plenty of reasons for gamers to get together.

The new Joy-Con controller splits into two, allowing easy multiplayer gaming. The small, wireless controllers are compact enough that carrying a couple won’t be much of a burden. The system’s portability means that you can set it down on a friend’s table and grab a quick game of Mario Kart at a moment’s notice.

Nintendo has been heavily marketing the Nintendo Switch as the go-to console for social gaming, and it’s easy to see why. Nintendo has built the system from the ground-up with the concept of bringing players together in mind. Everything from connectivity to the player’s ability to take the console out into the world is a push to make gaming more than a solitary experience.

The Nintendo Switch allows up to 8 systems to link together so that large groups can gather and play at once. Games like Splatoon 2 will take advantage of this feature, allowing players to engage in 4-on-4 local battles. The Joy-Con features buttons that will allow the user to upload screenshots and videos to social media, granting a social aspect to all games. Whether you want to brag to your friends or ask the community for help if you’re stuck, Nintendo has made the tools readily available.

The Release

The Nintendo Switch was officially released worldwide on March 3rd, 2017. The console is flying off the shelves, selling out worldwide.

We’re always excited when a new game or console is released; the Nintendo Switch is no exception. Because of our commitment to stocking the newest hardware, every GameTruck will have multiple units to play at an event.

We look forward to all the great memories that the Nintendo Switch will create. Learn more about the Nintendo Switch here.
